Yes, hypnosis works for everyone as it is a natural state. Have you ever noticed while driving that you do not remember the last seconds or minutes? In hypnosis, a treatment takes an average of five sessions. In psychology, the duration of guidance varies according to needs and problems. It can take a month or more.

What are the main streams in psychology?

Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT): with a clear aim, therapist will guide you, through exercises, to identify your beliefs, your automatic thoughts and their consequences on your behaviour and/or how you react to whatever happens to you. It is a short-term approach with an empathic setting that will allow you to explore your working patterns in order to modify, reduce or amplify them. Leading you to solve a specific problem that may result in global changes in your daily life.

Person Centered Approach: you are your own expert. Therapist is here to mark the path You decide to take. Through questioning and reformulation, the therapist will guide you to get a different perspective to get to know you better. Most of the time, you will work on your emotions. It is a mid-to-long term approach.

Body-Mind Methods: : nowadays mechanisms behind the mind-body connection are well-known. Based on that, methods such as Jacobson’s Relaxation will help you to work on body tensions to release mind pressure. It could be either a long or short-term approach.

System theory: people are at the center of a multitude of systems (family, work, couple, etc…). If one of them suffers from dysfunction there will be consequences on the others. Working on yourself means working overall on the sums of these systems (the person) and locally on one of them (the couple) to reach a greater level of self-improvement. Mostly, a mid-to-long term approach.

Psychoanalysis:  is based on the principle that every word or act, even involuntary ones, is an expression of our needs and expectations. Its purpose is to help us gain a better understanding of our needs in order to fulfill them. To do this psychoanalysis uses tools such as: free association through speech, role plays (psychodrama) or psychoanalytic relaxation.  The Psychoanalyst’s role will be to help identify unconscious mechanisms, such as certain defence mechanisms or lapses, to analyse the difficulties and resources present to deal with them.
